Week 23 - a mini holiday and a tomato disaster 🍅

Days 158 -165 (28th August - 4th September)

Hello to another new month!

A lot happened in this week so this is a photo-heavy journal entry, probably without many words because for some reason I have 0% motivation to make this post which is why it's later than usual. Supposedly I'm going back to work soon so that might shake things up a bit and inject me with some oomph. Sometimes I love the feeling of getting paid to be at home for 23 weeks on the trot but times like right now I just recognise that human desire to work/earn a living/be useful and I can see how the lack of that purpose can really just leave you feeling sluggish. God made us to work! Whether that's a 9-5 or looking after a family, or whatever, there's something inside us that desires to be useful, to look after things and feel we've accomplished something with our time. That's part of the human spirit and incidentally is one of the reasons why systems like socialism will never succeed *ahem* I've been listening to lots of politics today.

ANYWAY, September is here and I am:

a) Enjoying the last of the hydrangeas

b) Excited to wear boots and jeans again

c) All of the above.

The answer is c of course, Autumn is almost within our grasp!

My sister moved away for her first midwife job last week so the day before she left we went for a bike ride together. It was a nice, sunny morning and we had fun cycling at a leisurely pace whilst chatting about life.

Had a chance to catch up with this guy too.

Everything was going well with my tomatoes (emphasis on the was, read on to find out more............)

Finally beginning to turn red!

Finished this!

Online church number 23.

Still crocheting, I can sense the end is near though.

I ended up having a photoshoot with the snails because I had just finished cleaning their tank out in the garden and realised the lighting was very nice and they were being good models. Did I mention they turned one year old recently?

Tucking into some special snail porridge.

We had a funny experience in the garden last week, we thought we'd found buried treasure! We were taking a big hydrangea out of a pot to plant in the ground and as we did we just kept finding more coins buried in the soil amongst the roots! They kept appearing and it felt like a strange fantasy story where this plant was somehow producing money. Eventually I found out from my grandma that they had been put there to change the acidity of the soil, nothing too crazy, but it was a weird experience nonetheless. My mum said the copper can also be used to stop slugs? Who knew!

We put some plants into out newly dug border.

A family outing to Tobys Reclamation where we gazed upon antiques and curiosities such as old toilets, windows, gargoyles and hockey sticks.

Toothless, the cat next door.

Afternoon light.

Our majestic sunflower.

Ed and I took a mini holiday to Deal last week to see family which was fun. I made a banging playlist for the journey and we squeezed in a few podcasts too. I love road trips.

Saying hello to Stonehenge as we passed by...

...and hello to the white cliffs.

Delicious Deal sunset.

The moon was actually golden orange.

Three clouds by the sea.

I'm quite proud of how I captured that seagull looking v photogenic.

A charity shop browse was essential, the highlights: I found a cyberman and Ed found a t-shirt with cockatoos on.

Dahlias for days.

This was approx 6am, the sunrise was disappointing to say the least.

On the way home we stopped off at grandpa's and picked a few apples.

Ed planted this tree with he was four.

The bad news is that when we arrived home again I discovered that all my tomato plants had got blight whilst we were away 😢 so I rescued as many green tomatoes as I could but had to throw lots away. I only have a handful left now.......what a turn of events!

Documenting a good colour combo.

I found a fun running route! Hurrah!

💛💛💛 Phew! We made it to the end! I promise to be more wordy next time.

P.S. Ed and I watched Peanut Butter Falcon last week and I would highly recommend!!!
