Thriving at twenty five πŸ’ƒ

Hello! This post comes to you on a toasty heatwave day in mid-July 🌞 waiting patiently for a certain baby to make an appearance. Since the last post I have done a LOT of crosswords (for some reason I'm addicted even though I can very rarely complete them) and have taken a LOT of photos in the garden (no change there).

Here's the ramshackle fruit cage we constructed one evening in the hope that we'll actually get to enjoy some blueberries this year. Last year the birds had the lot!

It seems to be a great success so far! We've got raspberries growing in there as well.

Just a cute interruption from Juniper...

Two plants that are not in our garden (but I wish they were!), I stopped the car especially to get out and take a photo of that amazing rose!

A couple of weeks ago I found myself at a baby shower, much to my surprise! πŸ’˜πŸ‘ΆπŸΌ

It was lots of fun playing baby bingo, eating yummy food, and reading everyone's predictions about the new arrival...it ended up being a 50/50 split between boy and girl so we are still no closer to guessing πŸ˜† it's very exciting!

The last sourdough loaf we made before I managed to let the starter die in the heat 😰 this was the third attempt at a starter and I really thought it would be the one that I'd keep forever! It's a tricky business this bread making!

It did make some delish garlic bread though...

Don't judge the amount of cheese on my spag bol pls πŸ˜†

A couple of weeks ago we had a housegroup trip to the seaside where we got some hilariously huge portions of fish and chips (none of us even ordered a large so we can only imagine how big that would be!) and the more athletic members of the gang (not me) played frisbee on the green to work it off.

Spot the dinosaur!

This image got embedded in my brain and I ended up dreaming about swimming here...

Remember I mentioned snail-sitting for my friend? Well here is the promised family photo 🐌🐌🐌 RK has the nice shiny brown shell and he got to meet his parents Sabrina and Sebastian for the first time, and as you can see they got on very well. So well that I kept a close eye to make sure no shenanigans took place πŸ˜… snails are weird...

Hosta 'Blue Mouse Ears' being taken over by sedums, both flowering at the moment!

Jolly gazanias which I bought to fill some bare patches in the sunny front garden, they seem to be surviving the hostile environment!

Lots of flowers out the back too, including this pretty gypsophila grown from seed:

Ed's grape vines are growing like mad and these geraniums are loving life in the donkey planter πŸ˜†

California poppies also grown from seed, and an orange scented pelargonium with cool flowers:

Last post I was raving about the 'Hot Chocolate' rose, well this time it's all about 'Compassion', these massive blooms smell amazing 😍 they start out with a bright salmon coloured bud and then get lighter as they open up fully:

My hydrangea which I grew from a cutting in Falmouth is finally flowering again, this year it's an unusual pale, purpley pink!

There's lots going on in the raised beds, including the appearance of these round, stripey courgettes!

The warm weather has made Juniper extra sleepy, I don't blame her! When she isn't sleeping she's usually chasing the many flies which come in through the open windows...

Bump update, plus a 10/10 wedding anniversary donut πŸ˜‹ we celebrated 2 years of marriage last week! The celebrations aren't all that adventurous when you're 40 weeks pregnant lol.

Ed picked these from the garden:

A 5am sunrise sky, plus yet another bunch of hoya blooms! I am thinking I may have to do a whole post dedicated to hoya photos because the flowers are still going and I can't help documenting each one!

Extremely cute Juni alert ❗snoozing on top of the freshly dried laundry of course:

You may notice that I have been living in this huge, soft shirt for the past couple of weeks πŸ‘Œ my sister gifted it at the perfect time, just as I was running out of clothes to wear in this weather! I took these pics on a little walk round the block and it gave me the idea of doing a gender reveal with either pink or blue hydrangeas πŸ’˜πŸ˜†

In this cosy picture you can see what we have lovingly named πŸ’• the Bedsit πŸ’• we have been sleeping downstairs in the living room for the past week or so because it gets so hot and stuffy upstairs! It all started when we got the flu recently and the whole combination of fever/heatwave/pregnancy was just too much πŸ”₯ we even tried moving our mattress out into the garden to get some sleep before settling on the living room lol. You can also see in the next picture that after exactly 8 weeks our garden is finally scaffolding free! It was fun for a while but we were glad to see the back of it, and they took it down on the baby's due date too which was a funny coincidence! Ed was very happy to be able to finally mow the grass which had become a miniature jungle, and I am glad to have our washing line back up and running! Happy days πŸ’š

Last but not least, I turned 25! With everything else going on I kind of forgot about my birthday approaching, I did have a lovely day though! Nice and relaxed 😌 and quite glad that I didn't end up sharing a birthday with the baby, probably for the best! My mum had me at 25 during a heatwave so it would be fitting for it to come soon though lol.

My new toy 😍 a present from Ed, expect lots of instax snaps in the future!

πŸ•πŸ’›πŸ•πŸ’›πŸ• Birthday pizza! πŸ•πŸ’›πŸ•πŸ’›πŸ•

That's all for today! Perhaps next post will feature a baby, we'll see...in the meantime I'm off to put my hot, swollen feet in some icy water πŸ˜…

xoxo
